Working for Leeds Youth Offending Service

Leeds YOS is a multi-agency partnership consisting of Social Services, Education, Police, Probation and Health.  In addition we work with other agencies such as Connexions, CRI and DISC.

Posts are either seconded into the YOS by partner agencies (who may organise their own recruitment) or directly advertised by Leeds YOS.

There are a number of different posts within Leeds YOS and each job has its own job description. When applying it is important to follow the guidance that comes with the application form and demonstrate how you meet the essential and desirable criteria contained in the job description.

Leeds YOS employs a significant number of both Youth Justice Officers and Youth Justice Workers to work directly with young people. To work for Leeds YOS as either a Youth Justice Officer or Youth Justice Worker you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have direct experience of working with young people, particularly young people at risk.  Experience can be gained in many areas of previous employment, but many people who feel they need to build up sufficient experience find that volunteering with us (or other agencies) can help.

Volunteering helps applicants, without work experience in a related field, show that they have an aptitude to work with young people at risk.

No particular qualifications are required to work as a Youth Justice Worker.  The YOS holds an Investors in People award and many of our staff (from all grades) are put forward to complete a Professional Certificate in Effective Practice.

To work as a Youth Justice Officer, in addition to experience you are required to hold a professional qualification in Social Work, Youth and Community Work or Probation Work.

In some circumstances we may accept other professional qualifications if it can be demonstrated that they are equivalent and that the qualification includes both practice based and academic assessment.
